Veeva has shipped more AI in the last 12 months than any other regulated-software vendor. Quality Event Agents are live. Safety case agents are live. Falcon — a standalone agentic labor platform — is planned for early adopters in November 2026. Agentic Authoring that proactively drafts submissible documents is on the roadmap for late 2027.
The question for Quality leaders is no longer “does Veeva have AI?” It is “what does each agent actually do, what does it cost, and is my data ready for it?”
We pulled Veeva’s official IR announcements, the 2026 R&D and Quality Summit coverage from Copenhagen, the Veeva Vault Help documentation, earnings call transcripts, and third-party implementation analyses. Here is what we found.
The Three Product Lines
Veeva has built three distinct AI layers. They are not the same product. They serve different purposes, ship on different timelines, and will almost certainly be priced differently.
1. Vault AI — Agentic AI in the Vault Platform
What it is: AI built directly into the Vault Platform. Every Veeva application — Quality, Safety, RIM, Clinical, CRM, PromoMats — can leverage it. Think of it as the AI operating system that all Veeva apps share.
Architecture: Veeva calls this framework MAAP — Models, Agents, and Applications. Models handle reasoning. Agents sit outside applications and act on them. Applications remain the core systems of record. Vault is being made “dual mode” — controllable by both human users and AI agents.
LLMs: Anthropic and Amazon models, hosted on Amazon Bedrock. Custom agents can use Veeva-hosted models or customer-provided models on Amazon Bedrock or Microsoft Azure AI Foundry. Data never leaves the customer’s Vault — tenant-isolated, respects existing security permissions. LLM-agnostic: swap models without changing workflows.
Platform capabilities (live now across all Vault apps):
- Vault AI Chat — conversational interface to ask questions about any record and its related records
- Document Chat — ask questions about specific documents
- Translation — translate content within Vault
- Summarization — summarize documents and records
- Document Comparison — AI-powered difference summaries between document versions
- AI Tab (August 2026, 26R2 release) — ChatGPT-style interface that routes queries to the appropriate agent within Vault
Scale: 4,000+ active Vault instances in production, 2+ million monthly active users, over 5 million document views per day through the Doc Viewer.
2. Veeva Falcon — Agentic Labor Platform
What it is: An entirely NEW platform that sits OUTSIDE Vault. Delivers what Veeva calls “agentic labor” — standardized agents designed to automate high-volume, repetitive workflows end to end. Unlike Vault AI (which augments users within their existing workflows), Falcon replaces manual labor for specific tasks.
Announced: May 27, 2026 at the R&D and Quality Summit in Copenhagen.

3. Agentic Authoring — Proactive Document Drafting
What it is: A new application that proactively drafts submissible documents. It integrates natively with Vault RIM and Microsoft Word, monitors incoming data, and initiates drafting when conditions are met. This is the most forward-looking capability — it moves from “AI assists with drafting” to “AI initiates drafting proactively.”
Expected: Late 2027
Why it matters for Quality: If realized, this would automate the generation of regulatory submission documents, periodic safety reports, and quality system documentation — all of which are currently manual, high-effort quality outputs.
What Each Agent Actually Does for Quality
Deviation Agent (QMS) — Live April 2026
This is the agent Quality teams will use first. From the Veeva Vault Help documentation:
What it does:
- Generates narrative summaries of deviation investigations
- Generates CAPA plan summaries
- Pulls information from key related records — Investigations, Root Causes, CAPA Actions — and synthesizes them into a structured narrative
- Answers free-form questions about a deviation record via Vault AI Chat
Supported objects: Deviation (all standard object types), Quality Event (Deviation and GCP Deviation object types). Does NOT support custom objects and object types.
How to use it:
- Navigate to a Deviation record
- Click Edit
- Click the “Generate Summary” icon next to the Investigation Summary & Conclusion or CAPA Plan Summary field
- The agent reads all related records and generates a narrative
- Review the generated summary
- Click Save
Best practice from Veeva: “Generate a narrative summary only when a record is in its later lifecycle states, and when the data is expected to be most complete.”
Permissions: Role-based. Requires specific security profile permissions: “Agents: Deviation Agent: Execute” for summary generation, “Agents: Super Agent: Execute” for Vault AI Chat questions, plus field-level edit permissions. Respects existing Vault security — users only see data they are authorized to access.
Pending summaries: If you navigate away while a summary is generating, it continues. A “Pending Summary” icon appears when you return. Pending summaries are available for 24 hours after generation.
Quality Event Agents (Broader)
Beyond deviations, the quality agents cover:
- Complaint handling — summarization of complaint investigations
- Trend flagging — the agent can flag trends in deviations or CAPAs before they escalate
- Audit/inspection readiness — summarize and validate readiness status
- SOP change checking — check SOP changes against regulatory updates
- Supplier/batch monitoring — monitor supplier or batch data for emerging risks
Document Classification (QualityDocs)
AI-powered document classification within Vault QualityDocs. Automatically categorizes incoming quality documents (SOPs, work instructions, policies) based on content analysis.
Batch Release Integration
Vault Batch Release (5 customers live, 8 in implementation as of May 2026) connects release decisions to Vault RIM, enabling real-time checks on which markets a product is registered in. BioNTech and Sobe are live customers. Not AI per se, but the integration with Vault RIM data makes AI-powered batch release decisions possible.
What the Safety and Regulatory Agents Do
Safety Agents — Live April 2026
- Case Intake Agent — automates adverse event report intake. Extracts structured data from unstructured case reports (patient narratives, medical histories, concomitant medications)
- Case Narrative Agent — generates case narratives from structured safety data. Pulls patient information, event details, causality assessments, and regulatory reporting requirements into a compliant narrative
Pharmacovigilance is a quality function. Faster AE triage means faster signal detection. Consistent narrative generation reduces inter-reviewer variability. Structured data extraction from unstructured reports improves data quality for trend analysis.
Regulatory Agents — August 2026 (26R2 Release)
- Health Authority Interaction Agents — manage correspondence with regulatory agencies. Extract information from regulatory communications and draft responses
- Application Assistant Agent (custom agent example) — assists with regulatory submission preparation
- Structured data extraction from unstructured regulatory documents in Vault RIM
- Regulatory submission gap analysis — moving from preview to general availability
PromoMats Agents — Live December 2025 (First Vault AI Release)
- Quick Check Agent — scans content using editorial, market, channel, and compliance guidelines to identify issues BEFORE MLR review
- Content Agent — provides context-aware insights into document text and images. Answers questions, summarizes content, draws from Quick Check Agent findings
- Claims Agent (August 2026) — identifies and substantiates claims to ensure compliant referencing. Maintains the PromoMats Claims Library with full traceability
- Veeva Falcon MLR (acquired from Copli, June 2026) — targets a 70% reduction in manual labor within five years for MLR content reviews

The Pricing Model: Usage-Based, Not Fixed
Here is where it gets consequential for budgeting.
Veeva AI is licensed at the Vault level, not per-agent or per-application. From the April 29, 2025 announcement:
“The first release of Veeva AI is planned for December 2025 and will be licensed at the Vault level with a simple and reasonable subscription fee to encourage industry adoption that is both broad and thoughtful.”
The October 14, 2025 announcement added the usage component:
“Veeva AI’s usage-based pricing makes it easier for customers to get started and scale over time.”
Two layers:
Layer 1: Base Subscription (fixed). Licensed at the Vault level. One fee unlocks AI across all Vault applications. You pay this regardless of whether anyone uses the agents. Veeva deliberately priced this low to drive adoption.
Layer 2: Usage-Based Consumption (variable). Scales with how many agent actions your team actually runs. Every time someone clicks “Generate Summary” on a deviation, asks Vault AI Chat a question, runs a Quick Check on a promotional document, or invokes a custom agent — that is a billable event.
The exact per-invocation price is not publicly disclosed. Veeva negotiates enterprise deals. Your unit cost depends on your contract, your volume commitment, and your bargaining position. This is standard enterprise SaaS pricing — the same model AWS Bedrock uses underneath, which is what Veeva runs the LLMs on.
The Value Framing
Peter Gassner on the Q1 FY2026 earnings call (May 2025):
“Veeva can help increase life sciences efficiency by 15% or so with Veeva AI. That’s a huge number.” “Veeva is bringing in one dollar and customers are getting $4 of value.”
The 4:1 ratio means Veeva expects to price AI at roughly 25% of the efficiency gain value. That is their pitch to the CFO: the AI pays for itself four times over.
But “15% efficiency” is a directional claim, not a validated ROI. No public customer case study has confirmed it. The efficiency gain depends entirely on how much manual work the agents actually replace — and in Quality, the agents currently generate drafts, not final records. A human still reviews, edits, and approves every output. The time savings come from drafting, not from eliminating review.
What This Means for Your Quality Budget
A mid-size biopharma with 15 Quality users in Vault QMS. They generate 30 deviation summaries per month, run 200 Vault AI Chat queries, and generate 15 CAPA plan narratives. Their AI cost is the base subscription plus the usage charges for those ~245 agent invocations.
Now imagine a manufacturing excursion. Deviation volume triples for two months. The team generates 90 deviation summaries, runs 600 chat queries, and produces 45 CAPA narratives. Your AI bill triples.
If nobody uses the agents for a month (plant shutdown, holiday), usage cost drops to zero but you still pay the base subscription.
You have a fixed cost you can plan for and a variable cost you cannot.
Falcon Pricing (Not Yet Disclosed)
Falcon is a separate platform doing full automation. Pricing has not been disclosed. Expect a different model — likely per-task or per-workflow-volume, not the same usage-based metering as Vault AI.
Underlying Vault Pricing Context
For reference, the Vault platform itself costs:
- $600–$2,400 per user per year (estimated, varies by module and negotiation)
- Enterprise deployments negotiate volume discounts
- Onboarding fees: $10,000–$50,000
- Veeva hit a $3 billion revenue run rate in Q1 FY2026, guiding $3.09–3.10B for the full year
- 80+ Vault CRM customers live, three of the top 20 global pharma already adopted
The AI subscription sits on top of this. It is not included in the base Vault license.
The Platform Foundation: Why This Works for GxP
Data Architecture

Veeva’s native agents don’t cover everything. These tools fill the gaps:

The Compliance Reality Check
Veeva’s agents generate drafts. They do not approve records. That distinction matters enormously in a post-Purolea world.
The FDA Purolea Warning Letter (April 2, 2026) set the precedent: AI-generated documents used in cGMP must be reviewed and cleared by an authorized human representative of the Quality Unit. Veeva’s architecture is compliant with this — the agent generates, the human reviews and saves. But the human review step is not optional, and the time it takes is not zero.
The efficiency math: if a deviation narrative currently takes 2 hours to write manually, and the agent generates a draft in 30 seconds, but the human review still takes 45 minutes, you’ve saved 1 hour and 15 minutes per deviation. At 30 deviations per month, that’s ~37 hours saved. At a loaded cost of $75/hour for a QA specialist, that’s ~$2,800/month in labor savings.
Whether the usage-based AI cost is less than $2,800/month for those 30 invocations is the question Veeva won’t answer publicly. You’ll have to negotiate it.
What to Ask Veeva Before You Sign
- What is the base subscription fee for Vault AI at our license size? Get the fixed number.
- What is the per-invocation cost for each agent type? Deviation Agent, Quality Event Agent, Vault AI Chat — are they all metered the same way?
- Is there a usage cap or a spend ceiling? Can we set a monthly maximum to prevent budget surprises?
- What happens if deviation volume spikes? Is there a volume discount tier, or does the per-invocation cost stay flat?
- Does the Quality AI license cover all Quality applications (QMS, QualityDocs, Training)? Or is it per-application?
- What is the Falcon pricing model? If we’re planning to adopt Falcon agents in 2027, how does that interact with our Vault AI license?
- Are AI-generated summaries included in our existing Vault audit trail? Or is there an additional logging/compliance cost?
- What is the model update cadence? If Veeva upgrades the underlying LLM (e.g., Claude 4 to Claude 5), does that trigger a re-validation event? Who bears the cost?
The Bottom Line
Veeva has shipped the most comprehensive AI product line in regulated life sciences software. The Deviation Agent generates investigation narratives from actual Vault records. The Safety agents automate case intake and narrative generation. Falcon will automate TMF intake and health authority correspondence end to end. Agentic Authoring will proactively draft submissible documents.
The architecture is GxP-defensible. The LLM infrastructure (Bedrock) is enterprise-grade. The permissions model respects existing RBAC.
But the pricing model introduces budget variability that most Quality organizations are not used to. Fixed-seat licensing is predictable. Usage-based pricing is not. A manufacturing excursion, a regulatory inspection preparation, or a CAPA backlog spike will all drive AI costs up at exactly the moment when the Quality team is under the most pressure.
Budget for the base. Model the variable. Negotiate the cap. And before you sign anything, run the 8 questions above past your Veeva account team.
